This 1927 Bessie Smith tune entered the public domain this year and we had not previously heard it. The original was an odd arrangement but we based ours on it, well, other than turning it into blues rock. There are rhymes, rhymes within lines and no rhymes at times And, yes there are different chord progressions and melodies for some verses. We slightly changed the lyric to remove a rather risqué line and also to tweak a few other bits.
Intro
I know I’m quite a sight, sittin’ in this bar every night
drinking wine and hollerin' hooray, guitars playing till the break of day
But I turned my head around and loudly said,
Preach 'em blues, sing them blues, they sure do sound good to me
I've been in love for the last six months but blues is still hanging ‘round
Moan'em blues, holler them blues, let me convert your soul
We got a little spirit of the blues tonight, let me tell you, girls, case your man ain't treating you right
Let me tell you I don't mean no wrong, I will learn you something if you listen to this song
I ain't here to try to save your soul, just want to teach you how to stay on a good roll
Solo
Going on down the line a little bit now, there’s many a poor woman down
Read on down to chapter nine, women must learn how to take their time
Read on down to chapter ten, taking other women's men, you are doing a sin
Sing'em, sing'em, sing them blues, let me convert your soul
