THE BARN
Verse 1
For over a century the barn’s stood on a small hill
Built using mostly long forgotten skills
All the wood came from the nearby pines
It’s hand hewn beams stood the test of time
Chorus
For generations children played in a loft full of hay
You could hear them giggling when the horses neighed
The work was hard but all did their share
And some say even a little love was made there
Verse 2
A farm bell by the barn could be heard a mile away
Nobody could ring it without something to say
Six days a week it rang for quitting time
More than lunch that was the workers’ favorite chime
Chorus
For generations children played in a loft full of hay
You could hear them giggling when the horses neighed
The work was hard but all did their share
And some say even a little love was made there
Verse 3
On a porch an old man looks up from his weathered hands
He gazes at the barn now bordered by corporate land
For years the family has stubbornly refused to sell
Will it last? …. now only time will tell
